There have been reports circulating on the internet questioning the validity of competence certificates issued by the
Montserrat Yachting Association. These reports label these documents as fraudulent.
Some nautical agencies, instead of focusing on their own work, have taken to social media to discredit other overseas organizations by sharing these false articles. This behavior casts doubt on the professionalism within the maritime and nautical industry.
A search on the
International Maritime Organization (IMO) website and the
Maritime Coastguard Agency does not yield any publications or mentions of the
Montserrat Yachting Association. The articles circulating online are sourced only from other associations and maritime agencies that seem more interested in undermining the reputation of others than improving their own services. Such practices of disseminating information that discredits competitors are unethical.
It's worth noting that the
Montserrat Yachting Association (MYA) is a legitimate organization authorized by the Financial Services Commission of the government of Montserrat, British West Indies.
MYA is dedicated to upholding high standards for qualifications, and certificates are issued only to seamen who pass the necessary exams or hold equivalent competence certificates from their country of origin or residence, along with the required sea time and experience. Commercial endorsements require proof of STCW 95/2010 training.
MYA has garnered endorsements from member states, further solidifying their credibility. They also intend to take legal action against these unscrupulous agencies, some of which have previously been investigated by the IMO in past years.
This reaffirms the need for professionalism and fairness within the maritime industry.
